Catholic Priest

Roberto A. de Otero

Ordained: 1977

Father Roberto A. de Otero came to Hawai’i in 1981 and worked at Sacred Hearts Academy, Our Lady of the Mount, and St. John the Baptist in Honolulu throughout the 1980s. In 2002, two plaintiffs filed a lawsuit alleging that Father de Otero sexually abused them when they were altar servers at St. John the Baptist. In 2004, another plaintiff and former altar server filed suit alleging abuse by de Otero at the same parish in 1985. The priest was removed from public ministry by Bishop DiLorenzo in 1993 when he admitted that he had molested a boy at the Twentynine Palms Marine base in California.
