John Paul Medvit

John Paul Medvit was a Christian Brother and a teacher at Damien Memorial High School in the 1980s and 1990s. His first stint at the school lasted only a year, from 1980-1981. He returned to Damien in 1985, teaching multiple subjects, including geometry, English, algebra, computer science, Spanish, and religion. He also ran the school bookstore, the Parents’ Club, and coached bowling. He died in 2012. Later that same year, a plaintiff brought a lawsuit alleging that Medvit sexually abused him when he was a student at Damien beginning in 1986. The plaintiff claimed that he reported the abuse to school officials, but that Medvit was only temporarily removed.
